Why Beef Tallow Soap Feels Different
Tallow has been a soapmaker's staple for generations, and for good reason. Beef tallow soap makes a hard, long lasting bar with a creamy, stable lather that cleanses without leaving your skin feeling tight. The fatty acids in tallow are similar to the oils your own skin makes, which is why it feels so comfortable to wash with.
We render our tallow low and slow so more of its natural vitamins and fatty acids make it into every bar. Each tallow bar soap is cold processed and free of synthetic fragrance, dyes, and fillers. Prefer a bar made with plant oils? Browse our full natural bar soap collection.
How to Choose Your Tallow Bar Soap
Every beef tallow bar soap in this collection starts with the same tallow base, then gets its own character from what we add. Goats, Oats 'n Honey and Blue Ridge Goat Milk are our softest bars, pairing tallow with goat milk for a creamy, comforting wash. You will find more mild bars in our gentle soap collection.
Want a deeper clean? Chimney Sweep adds activated charcoal, and Sage + Salt brings a mineral spa feel to your routine. For more texture, shop our exfoliating bar soap picks.
Shopping for two? Midnight Rose and Flint and Flame are our his and hers bars. For something more rugged, True Grit Tallow Soap is part of our True Grit Tallow line.
Grass Fed Tallow Soap From Our Virginia Studio
Our grass fed tallow soap is made with grass fed and grass finished beef tallow from regenerative small family farms. We render it, make every batch, and pack every order ourselves in our central Virginia studio. It is handmade in Virginia, not mass produced in a factory overseas.
The Wilmoth family started Hearth & Homestead in a Virginia kitchen in 2016, and we still make everything the way we started: by hand, in small batches. Ten years and over one million products sold later, our soaps are Leaping Bunny certified cruelty free. If it is not good enough for our family, it is not good enough for yours.
Building a Tallow Soap Routine
A good tallow soap routine is simple. Lather your bar between wet hands or on a washcloth, rinse, and pat your skin dry. Then set the bar on a draining dish so it stays firm for next time.
To finish, smooth on our whipped tallow balm while your skin is still slightly damp. It is the same grass fed tallow in a form made to stay on your skin, so you step out of the shower feeling soft and nourished.
